Arsenal closing in on Sporting Lisbon’s Carvalho for cut-price £24m fee, according to reports
Arsenal are edging closer to completing the signing of Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder William Carvalho. The young star has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer and although Manchester United were originally linked rivals Arsenal reportedly moved ahead in the deal.
Now O Jogo report that despite having a release clause of £37 million Carvalho could move for around £24 million after the two clubs came to an agreement on a fee.
After the Emirates Cup victory over Benfica on Saturday Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hinted that he would make one or two more signings and that they would be defensive players.
With Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and others Arsenal have an abundance of attacking midfielders but very few defensive players.
The Gunners have been linked to Sami Khedira in recent weeks but the German’s wage demands have put them off and now it appears as if they have decided to pursue Carvalho instead.
