Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is set to win the race to sign highly-rated midfield man William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon.
The Portuguese side originally demanded the full £35million buy-out
clause for the 22-year-old, but media outlet O Jogo claim the Gunners
could see their £24m up-front bid accepted.
Chelsea, Manchester
United and Real Madrid have all been linked with Carvalho, who featured
for Portugal at the World Cup, but the Gunners are now favourites for
his signature.
Arsenal’s move for Real Madrid star Sami Khedira
appears to have stalled due to wage demands so second choice Carvalho
could become Wenger’s fourth major summer signing.
Wenger has
confirmed that Arsenal’s spending is not over this summer and the north
London club are hoping to get more deals done before the end of the
transfer window.
